This register records the key details about the applicant parties who are applying for permission to marry.

This information includes:

  • their names;
  • their ages;
  • the date of permission or refusal;
  • the ship of arrival;
  • the sentence (for the party who was the convict);
  • whether or not the requesting party was free or bonded and
  • the name of the clergyman.

The AIF Project is a database that is hosted by the University of Canberra and contains a multitude of information based on the records held in the Research Centre at the Australian War Memorial.

It consists of the wartime service and the personal information of the 331,000 Australian men and women who served overseas during the First World War.

With this database, you can hopefully obtain information on fragments of their lives (both military and personal) to gain a better understanding of who these courageous people were.

You can conduct a search by name and/or service number and see the following:

  • Regimental number,
  • Place of Birth,
  • School,
  • Age at enlistment,
  • Religion,
  • Occupation,
  • Address,
  • Marital Status,
  • Age at embarkation,
  • Next of Kin,
  • Previous Military service,
  • Embarkation details & name of the ship,
  • Enlistment date,
  • Rank,
  • Unit Name,
  • The Soldier’s Fate ( whether he returned or was killed).

You can also click on the name of the soldier’s Unit and be taken to further details of his regiment along with the names of some of the soldiers who served with him.
