History and Significance:
On Saturday, afternoon the Mayor of Coburg (Cr. A. Bush) performed the ceremony of unveiling a handsome drinking fountain at Pascoe Vale, erected by the Pascoe Vale Soldiers' Association in honor of those who had enlisted from Pascoe Vale and in memory of those who had died on service. On the sides of the granite block supporting the fountain were the names of the fifty men of Pascoe Vale who had determined to enlist and fight for their country and the Empire. The Mayor was introduced by Mr Larnach, and expressed his feelings of pleasure at being invited to perform the ceremony and sorrow at its necessity. Some of the names on the memorial were those of young men whom he had known and had grown up with. He congratulated the people of Pascoe Vale on furnishing the rest of Coburg with an example in the way of erecting a handsome and substantial memorial to those who had volunteered from this district. After unveiling the memorial, brief speeches were made by Mr Blackburn, M.L.A., and CrAcknowledgement:
